In this special edition of mu Space Sit Downs, we interview one of our international partners, Gilmour Space Technologies, a leading space company in Australia. We discuss the future of space technology and Asia’s potential in the space industry.

What is Gilmour’s priority and function in the aerospace industry?
Gilmour: “Gilmour Space Technologies (gspace.com) is a leading space company in Australia that is developing new capabilities for launching small satellites to orbit. The company is working towards its first Eris orbital rocket launch from Queensland's Bowen Orbital Spaceport in the coming months and is offering commercial launch services from 2024. As a new space pioneer, Gilmour Space is also helping to establish an Australian Space Manufacturing Network (ASMN), which will partner with local and international companies to advance space manufacturing in Australia.”

What’s your opinion on the space industry’s future in making lives easier, more convenient and its gradual prominence in various industries?
Gilmour: “We believe there is tremendous potential for new space technologies to support all industries, now and into the future. Among other things, satellites today provide important Earth observation data that are used for weather forecasting, natural disaster management, precision agriculture, mining exploration, and logistics. Space satellites can also be used to improve communications and internet connectivity in remote areas, enable the operation of autonomous vehicles, and enhance our national security. Indeed, with greater access to space enabled by new launch vehicles like Gilmour Space's Eris rocket, sky is no longer the limit !”

What is Asia’s, specifically Southeast Asia’s, potential in joining the global space market?
Gilmour: “There are many good companies in Southeast Asia, like muSpace in Thailand, that are entering into the global space market. These new space players are entrepreneurial, innovative, and working hard to solve real problems for their customers in some of the world's fastest-growing economies. The future is bright !”
